The campus community mourns the passing of James Hornberger, who died on Tuesday, August 9. James worked for dining services, retiring in 1987. James was born May 15, 1921, in Philadelphia, a son of the late George and Johanna (Weinrich) Hornberger. On July 9, 1937, in Elkton, Maryland, he married the former Margaret E. Foss, who preceded him in death April 17, 2011. James served in the Navy during World War II from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1945. The campus community mourns the passing of Edith Kreps, 79, who died on Monday, July 18.  Edith worked for the University for 15 years, retiring as custodian in 2000. She was born Jan. 12, 1937, in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late Arthur R. and Vivian Alda (Gardner) Baney. She was married to Arthur Kreps who preceded her in death. Edith graduated from Lewisburg High School and worked as a beautician before coming to Bucknell. Edith enjoyed playing bingo, sewing and taking bus trips. The campus community mourns the passing of Madhu Malik, who died on Friday, May 20. Madhu joined the Bucknell Faculty in 1983 and after teaching for 26 years, retired as Professor Emeritus of Russian in 2009. A native of India, where she was born in 1947 on the eve of India’s independence, Madhu received her BA and MA in Russian Language and Literature from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, and her PhD in Slavic Folklore from the University of Virginia in 1982. The campus community mourns the passing of Sally Nyquist, who died on Wednesday, May 11.  Sally joined the Bucknell Faculty in 1972 and after teaching for 32 years, retired as Professor Emeritus of Biology in 2004. Sally was born Nov. 8, 1941, in Hutchinson, Minn. She grew up on a farm and attended a one-room rural school house for her first seven years. After graduation from high school and Wheaton College, she entered the Peace Corps where she worked on a general science curriculum development project and taught for two years at Pio Duran Memorial School in Guinobatan, Albay, Philippines. The campus community mourns the passing of Geraldine Sauers, 81, who died on Friday, March 25. Geraldine worked for the University for 31 years, retiring as a custodial supervisor in 1996. Geraldine was born June 30, 1934, in Selinsgrove, a daughter of the late Leon and Mary (Herman) Schrader. On June 28, 1952, she married Donald B. Sauers, who survives. Geraldine was a 1952 graduate of Selinsgrove High School. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kratzerville and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 394, Lewisburg. The campus community mourns the passing of Ethel Hartman, 96, who died on Friday, March 11, 2016.  Ethel worked as a secretary for the University for 25 years, and prior to retirement in 1982, she worked in the department now known as East Asian Studies. She was born Feb. 16, 1920, the same month as her late husband of 58 years, Paul E. Hartman (1911-1998). The campus community mourns the passing of Lucille Kline, 101, who died on Monday, March 7.  Lucille worked as a secretary in the Department of Athletics, retiring in 1972 after 21 years of service. She was born June 25, 1914 in Parrott, VA, a daughter of the late Walter and Oma (Warfe) Sutherland. Lucille and her husband, Floyd E. Kline, celebrated 51 years of marriage before his death on November 11, 1987. The campus community mourns the passing of Leona Brouse, 99, who died on Sunday, December 6. Leona worked as a custodian for the University for 12 years, retiring in 1983. Born January 21, 1916, a daughter of the late Amos Boyd and Sarah Ellen (Bender) Faust, she almost reached her goal of celebrating her 100th birthday. She was married to Carl W. Brouse Sr., who preceded her in death on March 4, 1988. In addition to Bucknell, Leona was employed at Fox Knapp, Lewisburg Woolen Mill, and Evangelical Community Hospital. The campus community mourns the passing of Slava Yastremski, 63, who died on Friday, November 13, after 25 years of service to Bucknell, where he was loved by many students and colleagues. The campus community mourns the passing of Eugene “Gene” Depew, 66, who died on Monday, November 23, 2015. A member of the Class of 1971, Gene was a recipient of both his bachelor and master of science degrees in education from Bucknell University. Following graduation, Gene returned to Bucknell as an assistant football coach, serving in that role until 1992. He became an assistant baseball coach in 1974 and took on the role of head coach in 1982. He retired as head baseball coach in 2012 after 40 years of service to Bucknell.
