Mike Hackenberg

Dear Colleagues, I write to share the sad news that our friend and colleague Mike Hackenberg has passed away. A 16-year member of the facilities team, Mike worked as a utilities technician. He was a certified pool operator with primary responsibility for the maintenance of Kinney Natatorium. Mike also served as a welder, rebuilt and maintained pumps on campus, and maintained the campus steam/condensate systems. His facilities coworkers recall Mike as a skilled craftsman who took pride in his work and found creative solutions for any problem that arose. The campus community mourns the passing of Franklin Ellis Harley ‘59, who died on Wednesday, Oct. 27. The campus community mourns the passing of Lewis Dewart M’64, P’78, who died on Saturday, September 4. Lewis retired in 1992 as Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering after 18 years of service to the University. Lewis taught Aerodynamics and Advanced Engineering Problems with special talents in the aerodynamics field. His colleagues have shared that Lewis was a rare combination of a professional who has outstanding laboratory skills and other experimental talents.
