David John Lu

Dear Colleagues, The campus community mourns the passing of David John Lu, 94, who died on Monday, Dec. 26. David retired as Professor Emeritus of History and Japanese & East Asian Studies in 1994 after more than 33 years of service to Bucknell. Three of David’s children attended Bucknell — Daniel Lu ’79, Cynthia (Lu) King ’81 and Stephen Lu ’85. Rev. James “Jim” Hammerlee

The campus community mourns the passing of Reverend James “Jim” Hammerlee, 92, who died on Saturday, Nov. 26. James retired in 1992 with 26 years of service to Bucknell. Jim served in a number of key roles at Bucknell including University chaplain, director of student activities, adviser to international students, and founding director of the Weis Center for the Performing Arts. He was awarded the Burma-Bucknell Bowl Award in 1978 for his outstanding contributions to international understanding, and the Harriman Award in 1981 for his many contributions to the cultural life of Bucknell and the Lewisburg community. Theodore Tucker “Tuck” Orbison

The campus community mourns the passing of Theodore Tucker “Tuck” Orbison, 97, who died on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Tuck retired as professor of English in 1991 after more than 29 years of service to Bucknell. Tuck taught Elizabethan drama and modern American literature, and was remembered as a kind colleague and respected teacher. His published works include The Tragic Vision of John Ford (1974) and a journal article on modern drama. He also edited The Binding of Proteus: Perspectives on Myth and the Literary Process and co-edited The Middle Temple Documents Relating to George Chapman’s ‘The Memorable Masque.’ Included below […]

James “Jim” Zaiser P’80

Dear Colleagues, The campus community mourns the passing of James “Jim” Zaiser P’80, who died on Sunday, Dec. 4. Jim retired as professor emeritus of mechanical engineering in 1999 after more than 33 years of service to Bucknell. Jim is survived by his son, Barry Zaiser ’80. Jim served as chair of mechanical engineering for 10 years, received the 1988-89 Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching, and participated in the NSF Panel on Instrumentation and Laboratory Improvement. Dear Colleagues, The campus community mourns the passing of James Turnure Sr. P’82, who died on Saturday, Oct. 22. James retired as professor emeritus of art in 1992 after 24 years of service to Bucknell. James is survived by his son, Jim Turnure Jr. ’82. Bob Burchell

Dear Colleagues, The campus community continues to mourn the passing of Bob Burchell, who died on Sunday, Sept. 25. He worked in Facilities for more than 11 years and is deeply missed by his colleagues. Bob held the position of groundskeeper II at Bucknell, where his landscaping skills benefited our beautiful campus, including the President’s House grounds. He also assisted with the setup of major University events. Bob’s coworkers describe him as a dedicated professional who took great pride in his work.
