William “Bill” Burkholder

The campus community mourns the passing of William “Bill” Burkholder, 74, who died on Sunday, July 23, while working on his beloved farm in Turbotville, Pa. Bill retired in 2012 as Manager of Library Technology in L&IT after more than 21 years of service to Bucknell. Bill was a wonderful friend to many and the loving husband of Nick Benvin, who survives him. Bill and Nick were together for 38 years. Douglas K. Candland

Dear Colleagues, The campus community mourns the passing of Douglas K. Candland, 88, who died on Sunday, April 16, 2023. Doug retired as professor emeritus of psychology in 2002 after 41 years of service to Bucknell, leaving an indelible impact on the University community.  A model teacher-scholar, Doug had countless accomplishments during his career here and is perhaps best known for founding Bucknell’s program in animal behavior. Dan Hoffman

The campus community mourns the passing of Dan Hoffman who died on Monday, July 26. After 33 years of service to Bucknell, Dan retired from the University in 2003 as Professor Emeritus of Biology. During Dan’s tenure at Bucknell, he received a number of National Science Foundation (NSF) grants. His colleagues in the Biology department shared that Dan was a loyal Bucknellian, having taught in the Biology department for more than 30 years.
