Gladys Lakes ’47

The campus community mourns the passing of Gladys Lakes ’47, who died on Wednesday, October 14. Gladys retired in 1990 as the Assistant Registrar after 30 years at Bucknell. Gladys was born in Lewisburg on September 1, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Benson and Mary E. (Moran) McDowell. She was married to the late Russell H. Lakes. Gladys was a graduate of Lewisburg High School and Bucknell University, Class of 1947. In addition to working at Bucknell, Gladys also worked as a waitress at Bechtel’s in Lewisburg. Shirley Longacre

The campus community mourns the passing of Shirley Longacre, who died on Monday, August 31. Shirley retired in 1988, as the secretary to the dean of Arts and Sciences, after 19 years at Bucknell. She was born January 9, 1925, in Northumberland, the daughter of Robert L. and Mildred (Hassinger) Herman. On Jan. 9, 1946 she married John E. Longacre who preceded her in death on June 21, 2000. Pauline “Polly” Sauers

The campus community mourns the passing of Pauline “Polly” Sauers, who died on Thursday, July 23. Polly retired in 1992 as the assistant to the dean of engineering after 21 years at Bucknell. Born June 13, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Monroe and Vertie (Schreffler) Neiswender. On Aug. 1, 1948, she married George “Lewie” Sauers, who preceded her in death. The campus community mourns the passing of Beatrice Williams, who died on Monday, May 25. Beatrice worked in facilities for 16 years, retiring in 1991. Born March 1, 1926, in Kratzerville, Beatrice was the daughter of the late Foster C. and Dilla (Brouse) Kline. On Jan. 31, 1976, she married Junior Williams who preceded her in death. The campus community mourns the passing of Geraldine “Gerry” Johnson, who died on Sunday, May 24. Geraldine worked for dining services for 11 years, retiring in 1991. She was born Aug. 30, 1926 in Monroe Township, Snyder County, a daughter of the late Alfred and Mary (Heiser) Baum. Larry Zeller

The campus community mourns the passing of Larry Zeller, who died on Saturday, May 16. Larry worked as an electrician for 26 years and retired in 2010. Larry was born May 29, 1943, a son of the late Francis Samuel and Jean (Wagner) Zeller. On February 16, 1962, he married the former Barbara Metzger, who survives. Larry graduated Mifflinburg Area High School in 1962. The campus community mourns the passing of Lorraine Kistler, who died on Wednesday, February 25. Lorraine worked for dining services for 19 years, retiring in 1997. Born Sept. 15, 1933, in Renovo, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence Sr. and Geraldine (Knoebel) Boop. On Jan. 1, 1954, she married Allen Kistler, who survives.
