The campus community mourns the passing of James D. Hostetler, who died on Tuesday, March 20. Jim retired in 2015 as Director of Construction and Design in Facilities, after 30 years of service at Bucknell. It is with great sadness the family of James D. Hostetler announces his untimely passing on March 20, 2018, at the age of 65 years.
Jim retired from Bucknell University in 2015 as the Director of Construction and Design after 30 years of service. During his 30 years, he oversaw the completion of numerous capital projects; supporting the University’s growth and development. Jim also volunteered countless hours to help develop the Outdoor Education and Leadership program for the University.
Jim was an outdoors enthusiast and enjoyed hiking, climbing, kayaking, canoeing, rafting, caving, camping, and biking. Jim was also dedicated to our community and served on multiple boards, committees and construction projects.
Jim will be forever remembered by his wife Darcie, and their children, Lauren (Craig), Erin (Chris), Joshua (Allison) and Roslynn (Julie). He will be remembered by his four grandchildren, Oscar, Savannah, Eddie James, and Sydney; by his brothers, Rick (Reni), Gary (Lorie) and Gregg (Linda); by his father (Jim); and in-laws, (Dave and Shirley). Jim will also be remembered by his extended family, nieces, nephews and numerous dear friends.
Jim was predeceased by his mother, Mary, and daughter, Evan.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at Fero Vineyards & Winery, 965 JPM Road, Lewisburg.

I was lucky to have known Jim for over 25 years–in venues ranging from kayaks on rivers, hiking trails, bars, and Board meetings. He was a smart, inquisitive, patient and extremely competent colleague and, for those of us who knew him personally, a droll, generous, and unique friend. He will be greatly missed.
