Dear Colleagues and Students: The Bucknell community continues to mourn the sudden passing of Thaddeus Davis ’09 who died tragically last week while on vacation with his family. Thaddeus was employed as a development officer in the Annual Fund Office since 2014. Services have been scheduled for Saturday, July 29. Mary Elizabeth (Bower) Gavitt

Dear Colleagues: The campus community mourns the passing of Mary Elizabeth (Bower) Gavitt, 54, who died on Tuesday, May 9. Mary was employed as an Animal Caretaker in the Animal Behavior Laboratory; specifically the primate, since 1991. Mary was born July 14, 1962, a daughter of the late Donald E. and A. Elizabeth (Gross) Bower and was raised in the country near Watsontown. Like her Grandmother Gross, Mary had a passion for animals and the family home housed a menagerie of pets. Dear Colleagues, The campus community mourns the passing of Robert “Rob” Kaleta, 46, who died on Friday, March 10.  Rob joined Bucknell and the L&IT Enterprise Systems (ES) team in late 2013 as the administrator of our Banner Applications. He was quickly promoted to an Assistant Director role with expanded responsibility for the team that supports the daily operations of some of our most critical systems. Rob was born April 22, 1970, in Ashland, a son of Robert John and Diane (Shuey) Kaleta, of Ranshaw. Edward Mastascusa

The campus community mourns the passing of Edward “Ed” Mastascusa, who died on Sunday, February 5, 2017.  Edward joined the Bucknell faculty in 1968, and, after teaching for 41 years, retired as Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering in 2009. Ed received the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching in the 1980-81 academic year, and he served as department chair for many years during his tenure at Bucknell. Ed was a 1956 graduate of St. Basil High School. He continued his education at Carnegie Mellon University, where he received bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees by 1964. Beth Bouchard

The campus community mourns the passing of Beth Bouchard after a courageous battle with cancer. Beth came to Bucknell in July of 2010 from Rider University and served as the Director of the First-year Experience. Beth was a passionate and committed member of our community who cared deeply about our students. Barry Maxwell ’59

The campus community mourns the passing of Barry Maxwell, 78, who died on Sunday, October 25, 2015. A member of the Class of 1959, Barry received both his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Bucknell University. He joined the Bucknell faculty in 1963, became Dean of Engineering in 1979, and in 1986 moved to the role of Vice President for Administration. Moises Veloz

The campus community mourns the passing of Moises G. Veloz, who worked as a shop technician in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. He passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lewisburg. Moises was a loving and dedicated husband and father as well as an avid fan of the San Antonio Spurs.
