Anna Jean (Swisher) Machamer

The campus community mourns the passing of Anna Jean Machamer, who died on March 5, 2019.  At the time of her retirement in 1991, she was the secretary in the Biology department and had served Bucknell for 31 year.  Included below is the complete text of the obituary, as provided by the family.

Anna Jean (Swisher) Machamer, 89, formerly of Penn Street, Milton, passed away on March 5, 2019, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.

She was born July 29, 1929, in Milton, a daughter of the late Earl and Elizabeth (Doran) Swisher. On Feb. 2, 1952, she was married to Richard Machamer, who preceded her in death in 2008 breaking a marital union of 56 years.

Jean was a 1947 graduate of Milton High School.

She was employed as a secretary at Bucknell University for 31 years.

She was an active and devoted member of St. Joseph Church, Milton. Jean served on the advisory board of the Salvation Army in Milton and was a member of the Milton Women’s Club.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David E. and Debra Machamer of Milton; one daughter and son-in-law, Leslie E. and William Cameron of Milton; five grandchildren, Heather Machamer, Cara Ulrich, Dallas Machamer, Tyler Machamer, and Courtney Cameron; and six great-grandchildren, Chloe Perrin, Brock Machamer, Willow Machamer, Rayne Walker, Jamie Ulrich, and Paige Ulrich.

Friends and relatives will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 18, at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, at St. Joseph Church, 109 Broadway, Milton, with the Rev. John D. Hoke officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
