Charles Berry

The campus community mourns the passing of Charles Berry, who died on March 3, 2019. He retired from Facilities in 1998, after 25 years of service to Bucknell. Included below is the complete text of the obituary, as provided by the family.

Charles Edward Berry, 87, of New Berlin, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at 1:15 a.m. at his home.

He was born Aug. 14, 1931, in Sunbury, a son of the late William Edward and Sarah Berry. On March 6th, 1954, he married the former Betty P. Dreese who preceded him in death on April 11, 2018.

Charlie was enlisted in the Army in October of 1950 and was honorably discharged in October of 1953, earning the Good Conduct Medal and the Germany Occupational Medal.

He was retired from Bucknell University.

He was a member of Christ’s Lutheran Church of Dry Valley, a member of V.F.W. Post 1964, Mifflinburg and had served on the Board.
Charlie loved music and dancing and if he didn’t have a partner, he’d dance by himself. That’s how much he loved dancing. He also crocheted homemade rag rugs that kept him busy. He also enjoyed painting.

He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and John Brungard of Loganton, Terry and David Walls of Mifflinburg, and Margaret and Elvis Thomas of Loganton; daughter-in-law, Carol Berry of Selinsgrove; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Weaver and Dolly Bainbridge.

He was preceded in death by one son, Sydney Edward Berry; one great-great-granddaughter, Cathrynne; two sisters, Joan Williams and Shirley Propst; and stepmother, Dorothy Berry.

A celebration of life for Charlie will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at the Mifflinburg V.F.W., with Pastor Rickey Phillips officiating. Military rites will be acknowledged at this time.

Flowers may be delivered to the VFW Post. Interment will be private at the family’s discretion. Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.
